• Account information: Name and email address when you register
• Company submissions: Company name, description, website, location, and contact email when you submit a company listing
• Newsletter: Email address if you subscribe to our newsletter
• Saved search alerts: Email address and search filters when you save a directory search to receive new-match notifications. You may unsubscribe at any time using the link in any alert email.

Information collected automatically

• Usage data: Pages visited, search queries, bookmarks saved
• Technical data: Browser type, IP address, device information
• Security logs: IP address and timestamp of failed admin login attempts, retained for 30 days for abuse prevention

2. How We Use Your Information

• To provide and maintain the Service
• To process company submissions and ownership claims
• To send transactional emails (submission confirmations, claim approvals)
• To send newsletter updates if you have subscribed
• To improve and personalise your experience on the Service
• To detect and prevent fraud or abuse

3. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We may share your data with trusted third-party service providers that help us operate the Service:

• Supabase — authentication and database hosting (EU region)
• Vercel — website hosting, CDN, and serverless compute
• Resend — transactional email delivery and newsletter management
• Sentry — error tracking and application monitoring
• Logo.dev — company logo retrieval (company website domains only)

These providers act as data processors on our behalf and are contractually obligated to protect your data and use it only for the purposes we specify. Sentry receives anonymised error reports that may include device and browser metadata; we do not intentionally send personally identifiable information to Sentry and filter sensitive fields before transmission.

4. Data Retention

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. You may delete your account at any time from your profile settings. Deleted accounts are removed from our systems within 30 days.

5. Cookies

We use essential cookies for authentication sessions. We do not use tracking or advertising cookies. Your browser can be configured to refuse cookies, though this may affect your ability to sign in.

6. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your data
• Unsubscribe from marketing communications at any time

Company listings: If your company is listed on African Tech Map and you wish to correct or remove data, email us at hello@africantechmap.com with your company name and the requested change. Removal requests are processed within 30 days. Alternatively, you can claim your listing to manage your data directly.

7. Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and secure session management. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of material changes by updating the "Last updated" date. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
